Time4Leicestershire (T4L) enables people to connect with others in their community and share skills. This connection could be both online or face to face. Members should ensure that their behaviour is always safe, polite and respectful.
Time4Leicestershire is committed to keeping members safe. Members can help achieve that by reporting inappropriate behaviour as soon as possible.
How to use Time4Leicestershire Safely
We understand that at first exchanges can be daunting as you may not have done anything similar before; the information below can help you remain in control whilst getting the most out of the timebank.
Members are encouraged to interact and chat with other members on the Timebank website but should remain mindful of sharing personal information such as an address or telephone number prior to confirming the exchange.
Staying Safe when negotiating offers and requests
- Never post an offer or request with your address details.
- Never send money or financial information.
- Never respond to any request to send money or financial information. Report these immediately to time4leicestershire@leics.gov.uk
- Never give personal information including, but not limited to, your National Insurance Number or Bank Details. These should never be needed for an exchange.
- Report any inappropriate behaviour immediately to time4leicestershire@leics.gov.uk.
- Keep communication regarding the exchange on the timebank website system. Don’t give out your personal email address. You may need to give your address and mobile number but do so only once all details are arranged and you feel happy with the situation.
How to behave during an exchange
Whether your exchange is face to face or online please behave in line with these principles:
- Treat people fairly and with respect.
- Be polite and inform the person as soon as possible if you are unable to attend the exchange.
- If at any point you are not happy with the exchange, stop immediately and report any incidents or concerns to the Time4Leicestershire team.
- Only complete the agreed exchange. If you are asked to undertake more than what was previously agreed, you aren’t obliged to continue so you can stop at any time.
- Only attend the agreed exchange location. If you are asked to accompany the person somewhere else and you are uncomfortable doing so, stop the exchange immediately.
- Ensure you have a fully charged mobile phone in case of an emergency.
- Do not undertake or partake in any activities that may impair your judgement. Alcohol/drugs should not be consumed whilst on an exchange.
- Inform someone you trust of the location of the exchange and the time you should be home.
- When on an exchange always consider your escape routes in case of an emergency.
- Let us know your experiences in the exchange, positive or negative.
Exchanges at home
If you invite another timebank member to your home, or you visit another member’s home, it is important that you both feel safe and comfortable.
Undertake the exchange in a part of the house that is suitable for the activity. This could be the garden, or at a table in the kitchen.
If it makes you feel more comfortable, shut the doors to other rooms.
If at any point you are uncomfortable, it is acceptable to ask the other member to leave. If you are asked to leave, please be polite and respect the member’s wishes.
Exchanges when feeling unwell
If you feel like you have any symptoms of illness or covid-19 i.e., a high temperature, shortness of breath or genuinely feeling sick, keep yourself and others safe by postponing the exchange until you are feeling well.
If you are at high-risk from covid-19, continue to wear a face mask at exchanges and attempt to stay at least 2 metres away from people indoors or in crowds. Continue to wash your hands with soap and water or use hand sanitiser regularly throughout the exchange.
If you are feeling unwell, cancel the exchange as early as you can via the online software. If, when meeting the other member, they appear unwell do not put yourself at risk. End the exchange and rearrange another time.
